What is ChemoFit®?
AccuTheranostics® has developed an innovative laboratory test called ChemoFit® which is a specialized chemosensitive/chemoresistance assay that uses a patient’s own tumor cells in the laboratory to identify which drugs have the most, as well as the least, potential for treating the patient’s unique cancer. The patient’s tumor cells undergo mechanical disaggregation, are subjected to drugs, single and in combination, and a chemoresistance/sensitivity profile is determined.
Your tumor is unique in the way it grows and responds to treatment.
Using your tumor cells and ChemoFit® test results, your oncologist can determine a treatment plan that eliminates the regimens that are least likely to work and concentrates on the ones that have the most potential for killing your unique cancer.
What are the benefits of using ChemoFit® to guide chemotherapy?
With most cancers there are many choices of chemo regimens but every patient’s tumor is unique in the way it grows and responds to treatment. Patients with similar diagnoses do not always respond to the same drugs, doses or schedules. With AccuTheranostics’® advances in technology, tumor behavior in the lab accurately predicts tumor behavior in the patient. ChemoFit® provides insights that allow your oncologist to determine a treatment plan that eliminates the regimens least likely to work and concentrates on the ones that have the most potential for killing your unique tumor.
ChemoFit® test results can improve treatment outcomes including survival and quality of life.
Who should consider ChemoFit®?
ChemoFit® is recommended to guide treatment for solid tumors like ovarian, lung, breast, colon, prostate, cervical, endometrial, pancreatic cancers and sarcomas. ChemoFit® can be used for selecting both first line and second line chemotherapy, whether the aim of chemotherapy is cure or palliation.
When is the right time perform ChemoFit®?
ChemoFit® is performed on live tumor biopsy tissue, within 48 hours after surgery. Tumor tissue should not be treated with any fixative such as formalin, nor should it be embedded in wax as done for pathology investigation. These requirements suggest that you should discuss ChemoFit® with your oncologist or surgeon before a surgery date is scheduled.
What if my oncologist says ChemoFit® is not necessary?
ChemoFit® is the latest in a new generation of tumor assays. Although tumor assays have been around for more than two decades, their accuracy has been less than ideal until recently. Your oncologist may be basing their opinion on an older generation of tests and may not be familiar with the advantages of using this newer generation test.
How can I get ChemoFit®?
Your physician can order AccuTheranostics®’ laboratory tests directly if he or she has determined that the Chemoresistance/ Sensitivity Assay or other AccuTheranostics® cancer testing services are right for you. Discuss your medical history and suitability for the test with your oncologist.
